At three weeks old, the puppies are hitting some big milestones—and keeping us on our toes! Their eyes are wide open, and their ears are starting to pick up sounds, which means we’re officially playing DJ. We’ve been mixing it up with different music and even throwing in some louder noises to help them get used to everyday life. These little English Setter pups are learning fast!
Let the Toddling Begin!
The big news this week? The puppies are up and moving! They’re toddling around like wobbly little explorers, figuring out their legs while playing with their siblings. They’ve also discovered their voices, so it’s safe to say the quiet days are officially over. And guess what? We’ve got some teeth coming in, too! Great for the puppies, but maybe not so exciting for poor Ivy, who’s doing her best to keep up. Nursing with those sharp little teeth is no fun for mama!
Puppy Kisses (And Nose Nibbles)
What we’re loving the most is how the puppies are starting to show real excitement when they see us. They get up to greet us, wagging their tails and giving kisses. It’s honestly the cutest thing ever. (Although, I think they might be trying to nurse from our noses—sorry pups, no milk here!) These little interactions are so important for their socialization and make us even more excited to watch them grow.
Ivy's Meticulous Routine
Speaking of Ivy, she’s been nothing short of amazing. This girl has a routine and sticks to it! Before she’s ready to nurse, she insists on going out, eating, and drinking a big bowl of water. Then, when she’s with her puppies, she doesn’t just nurse them—she makes sure each one is spotless. It’s adorable to watch her keep everything so tidy. While she’s usually very happy hanging out with her babies, Ivy does have a bit of FOMO. If we’re in the kitchen cooking, she’s been known to leave the whelping box to see what we’re up to.
Storm's Adventures as Big Brother
And of course, we can’t forget about Storm, the puppies’ big brother. He’s been keeping himself entertained lately by stealing shoes (despite having a mountain of toys!) and using his bed as a toy instead. But more than anything, he’s still totally smitten with the puppies. He’s even managed to sneak into the whelping box a few times when we weren’t looking! Luckily, he’s been the sweetest big brother, always careful not to step on them. Watching him be so gentle and loving with the pups has been a real highlight for us.
Next Up: Random Objects and Real Food!
In the next few days, we’ll be introducing the puppies to all sorts of random objects to help them explore their world. From different textures to odd shapes, it’s all about building confidence and getting them used to new things. And in about a week, they’ll be trying real food for the first time—another huge milestone that’s always fun to watch!
Stay tuned for more updates as these 3-week-old English Setter puppies continue their journey. We can’t wait to see what they get up to next!
